The Woman and the Dragon in Revelation 12
The woman of Revelation will be a woman from Zion who is appointed for both the church and Israel at the end of this age. This woman, often thought as the church, will bear the Son through whom Jesus Christ will rule all nations with an iron scepter. The child is the future heir to David’s throne whose rule was prophesied in Jeremiah Isaiah and Psalms. His birth is the sign waited upon by the Israelites and will mark the coming of the time of Wrath and the great persecution.
This study requires a Bible and a book to summarize the important points.
Revelation 12 A great sign appeared in heaven: a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet and a crown of twelve stars on her head.2 She was pregnant and cried out in pain as she was about to give birth.3 Then another sign appeared in heaven: an enormous red dragon with seven heads and ten horns and seven crowns on its heads. 4 Its tail swept a third of the stars out of the sky and flung them to the earth. The dragon stood in front of the woman who was about to give birth, so that it might devour her child the moment he was born. 5 She gave birth to a son, a male child, who “will rule all the nations with an iron scepter.” And her child was snatched up to God and to his throne. 6 The woman fled into the wilderness to a place prepared for her by God, where she might be taken care of for 1,260 days
The dragon is the devil or Satan
Revelation 12 3 Then another sign appeared in heaven: an enormous red dragon with seven heads and ten horns and seven crowns on its heads. 9 The great dragon was…—that ancient serpent called the devil,or Satan, who leads the whole world astray…
The war in Revelation 12 is the completion of the war that started in the Garden of Eden
Genesis 3 13 Then the Lord God said to the woman, “What is this you have done?” The woman said, “The serpent deceived me, and I ate.” 14 So the Lord God said to the serpent, “Because you have done this,
“Cursed are you above all livestock and all wild animals!
You will crawl on your belly and you will eat dust all the days of your life.
15 And I will put enmity between you and the woman,
and between your offspring and hers; he will crush your head, and you will strike his heel.”
After the serpent deceived the Woman to eat the forbidden fruit, the serpent was cursed and God put an enmity between the offspring of the woman and the offspring of the serpent. The beast out of the sea (the anti-Christ) is the 7th head of the dragon. Through his government the dragon will work to destroy the promised child of Revelation 12 as it is written;
Revelation 12 4 … The dragon stood in front of the woman who was about to give birth, so that it might devour her child the moment he was born…
The dragon through through the anti-Christ will kill the child . The child’s soul and spirit is caught up to God’s throne to be raised in accordance to God’s will and purpose so that the child is raised to life along with the saints at Christ’s coming at the war of Armageddon. The killing of this child who will be raised again will fulfill the serpent’s bruising of the woman’s offspring, because the serpent has no power to fully destroy the child. The devil’d head is crushed as he is defeated by by the heavenly angels and he is thrown out of heaven for good, he will no longer accuse Christians before God, as it is written;
Revelation 12 7 Then war broke out in heaven. Michael and his angels fought against the dragon, and the dragon and his angels fought back. 8 But he was not strong enough, and they lost their place in heaven. 9 The great dragon was hurled down—that ancient serpent called the devil, or Satan, who leads the whole world astray. He was hurled to the earth, and his angels with him.
10 Then I heard a loud voice in heaven say:
“Now have come the salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God, and the authority of his Messiah. For the accuser of our brothers and sisters, who accuses them before our God day and night,has been hurled down.
The serpent or dragon together with his angels lose their place in heaven completely, they will no longer accuse the brethren as shown in the book of Job, instead, their position in heaven is restored to man as was in the beginning in the garden of Eden before the devil deceived man and took the authority, dominion and the position of glory that was meant for man. More so, at the war of Armageddon, Satan’s agents, the anti-Christ and the false prophet will be destroyed. Satan himself will be bound during the 1000 years and realized for a short while to prepare the nations for the war of Gog and Magog, after that,he will be throne in the lake of fire forever.
She will be from Mount Zion and will face persecution from the time she is about to give birth as written;
Jeremiah 4:31 I hear a cry as of a woman in labor, a groan as of one bearing her first child the cry of Daughter Zion gasping for breath, stretching out her hands and saying, “Alas! I am fainting; my life is given over to murderers.”
The signs in Revelation 12 happen just before the time of God’s vengeance upon the earth months after the child is born. At that time, the anti-Christ government will be against the top Christian leaders who will know the Truth of God, They will accuse the Woman of being the anti-Christ/false prophet so as to cover the anti-Christ himself. At that time, the Woman of Revelation 12 will ask for a sign from the Most High God so that Christian all around the world are assured of the truth. It will be her prayer asking for a sign from God when God will display the Signs of Revelation 12 in the sky as assurance to her and the church as a whole, soon after her son will be killed and caught up to God’s throne. Her prayer is recorded in Psalms 86:
Psalms 86 12 I will praise you, Lord my God, with all my heart; I will glorify your name forever. 13 For great is your love toward me; you have delivered me from the depths, from the realm of the dead. 14 Arrogant foes are attacking me, O God; ruthless people are trying to kill me, they have no regard for you. 15 But you, Lord, are a compassionate and gracious God,slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness.
16 Turn to me and be gracious to me; give your strength to your servant, and save the son of your maidservant. 17 Give me a sign of your goodness, that my enemies may see it and be put to shame, for you, Lord, have helped me and comforted me.
After her prayer in Psalms 86 for God’s vindication and the salvation of her son from the anti-Christ and his government, the signs of Revelation 12 are given in the sky and her son is snatched up to God’s throne.
Revelation 12 A great sign appeared in heaven: a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet and a crown of twelve stars on her head.2 She was pregnant and cried out in pain as she was about to give birth… 5 She gave birth to a son, a male child, who “will rule all the nations with an iron scepter.” And her child was snatched up to God and to his throne.
Clothed in the sun in Revelation 12:1 The moon indicates the wisdom she will have that leads many to righteousness as it is written, those who are wise will shine like the brightness of the heavens
Daniel 12:3 3 those who are wise will shine like the brightness of the heavens, and those who lead many to righteousness, like the stars forever and ever-
The moon under her feet; the moon was created to indicate seasons and times and thus implying, this woman will understand the times and seasons of the church and through the wisdom given to her by God (clothed in the son) she will lead many to righteousness.
The crown of 12 stars ‘crown of twelve stars on her head’ represent the 12 apostles upon which the church is built and the 12 tribes of Israel to whom she is anointed and sent
The birth of her son will be a sign to Israel and the church of the last hour of this age.
To the church and Israel, the child she bears will mark the fullness of the gentile Christians who are to be sealed for salvation in this age and will announce the coming time of distress that will lead to Israel’s full and final redemption as it was written,
Micah 5:3 3Therefore Israel will be abandoned
until the time when she who is in labor bears a son,
and the rest of his brothers return to join the Israelites
The Male Child of Revelation 12
Revelation 12:5 5 She gave birth to a son, a male child, who “will rule all the nations with an iron scepter.” And her child was snatched up to God and to his throne.
The the woman of Zion in revelation 12 bears is the future king David promised to the Israelites. The child will be born of man and woman but will be snatched up to God’s throne to be raised as son of God. Jesus Christ will extend his scepter of rule through this child and rule all nations with an iron scepter starting the 1000 year period in the next age. Facts about the child of Revelation 12
He is the leader from among the people, King David raised by God to rule over Israel spoken of in Jeremiah 30, starting in the 1000 year period
Jeremiah 30:8-9, 12,8“‘In that day,’ declares the Lord Almighty, ‘I will break the yoke off their necks and will tear off their bonds; no longer will foreigners enslave them. 9 Instead, they will serve the Lord their God and David their king, whom I will raise up for them.
10 “‘So do not be afraid, Jacob my servant; do not be dismayed, Israel,’
declares the Lord. I will surely save you out of a distant place,
your descendants from the land of their exile. Jacob will again have peace and security, and no one will make him afraid. 11 I am with you and will save you,’
declares the Lord. ‘Though I completely destroy all the nations
among which I scatter you, I will not completely destroy you.
I will discipline you but only in due measure; I will not let you go entirely unpunished
12 Their leader will be one of their own; their ruler will arise from among them.
I will bring him near and he will come close to me— for who is he who will devote himself to be close to me?’ declares the Lord.
He is the small child in Isaiah 11 who will rule when the covenant with the wild beasts is established.
Isaiah 11:1-9 1A shoot will come up from the stump of Jesse; from his roots a Branch will bear fruit. 2 The Spirit of the Lord will rest on him, the Spirit of wisdom and of understanding,
the Spirit of counsel and of might, the Spirit of the knowledge and fear of the Lord—
3 and he will delight in the fear of the Lord. He will not judge by what he sees with his eyes, or decide by what he hears with his ears; 4 but with righteousness he will judge the needy, with justice he will give decisions for the poor of the earth. He will strike the earth with the rod of his mouth; with the breath of his lips he will slay the wicked. 5 Righteousness will be his belt and faithfulness the sash around his waist.
6 The wolf will live with the lamb, the leopard will lie down with the goat,
the calf and the lion and the yearling together; and a little child will lead them.
7 The cow will feed with the bear, their young will lie down together,
and the lion will eat straw like the ox. 8 The infant will play near the cobra’s den,
and the young child will put its hand into the viper’s nest.
9 They will neither harm nor destroy on all my holy mountain,
for the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the Lord as the waters cover the sea.
He is the king promised to David in Psalms 89 who will be from Zion as promised in Psalms 132
Psalms 89 1I will sing of the Lord’s great love forever;
with my mouth I will make your faithfulness known through all generations.
2 I will declare that your love stands firm forever,
that you have established your faithfulness in heaven itself.
3 You said, “I have made a covenant with my chosen one,
I have sworn to David my servant, 4 ‘I will establish your line forever
and make your throne firm through all generations
19 Once you spoke in a vision, to your faithful people you said:
“I have bestowed strength on a warrior;
I have raised up a young man from among the people.
20 I have found David my servant; with my sacred oil I have anointed him.
21 My hand will sustain him; surely my arm will strengthen him.
22 The enemy will not get the better of him; the wicked will not oppress him.
23 I will crush his foes before him and strike down his adversaries.
24 My faithful love will be with him, and through my name his horn will be exalted.
25 I will set his hand over the sea, his right hand over the rivers.
26 He will call out to me, ‘You are my Father, my God, the Rock my Savior.’
27 And I will appoint him to be my firstborn, the most exalted of the kings of the earth. 28 I will maintain my love to him forever, and my covenant with him will never fail. 29 I will establish his line forever, his throne as long as the heavens endure.
34 I will not violate my covenant or alter what my lips have uttered.
35 Once for all, I have sworn by my holiness, and I will not lie to David—
36 that his line will continue forever and his throne endure before me like the sun;
37 it will be established forever like the moon, the faithful witness in the sky.”
Psalms 132:11-18 11The Lord swore an oath to David, a sure oath he will not revoke. “One of your own descendants I will place on your throne. 12 If your sons keep my covenant and the statutes I teach them ,then their sons will sit on your throne for ever and ever.”
13 For the Lord has chosen Zion, he has desired it for his dwelling, saying,
14 “This is my resting place forever and ever; here I will sit enthroned, for I have desired it.15 I will bless her with abundant provisions; her poor I will satisfy with food. 16 I will clothe her priests with salvation, and her faithful people will ever sing for joy. 17 “Here I will make a horn grow for David and set up a lamp for my anointed one. 18 I will clothe his enemies with shame, but his head will be adorned with a radiant crown.”
He is the son of man raised by God as Christ’s off-spring, promised to Jesus Christ in Isaiah 53 the extension of His scepter from Zion in Psalms 110
Isaiah 53 4 Surely he took up our pain and bore our suffering, yet we considered him punished by God, stricken by him, and afflicted. 5 But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed. 7 He was oppressed and afflicted, yet he did not open his mouth;he was led like a lamb to the slaughter,and as a sheep before its shearers is silent, so he did not open his mouth.
8 By oppression and judgment he was taken away. Yet who of his generation protested? For he was cut off from the land of the living;
for the transgression of my people he was punished. 9 He was assigned a grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death, though he had done no violence, nor was any deceit in his mouth.
10 Yet it was the Lord’s will to crush him and cause him to suffer,
and though the Lord makes his life an offering for sin, he will see his offspring and prolong his days, and the will of the Lord will prosper in his hand. 11 After he has suffered, he will see the light of life and be satisfied; by his knowledge my righteous servant will justify many, and he will bear their iniquities. 12 Therefore I will give him a portion among the great, and he will divide the spoils with the strong, because he poured out his life unto death, and was numbered with the transgressors. For he bore the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.
Psalms 110:1-7 1The Lord says to my lord: “Sit at my right hand until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet.” 2 The Lord will extend your mighty scepter from Zion, saying, “Rule in the midst of your enemies!” 4 The Lord has sworn and will not change his mind: “You are a priest forever, in the order of Melchizedek.”
And so it was written Psalms 2:6-9
6 “I have installed my king on Zion, my holy mountain.” 7 I will proclaim the Lord’s decree: He said to me, “You are my son; today I have become your father.
8 Ask me, and I will make the nations your inheritance,
the ends of the earth your possession.
9 You will rule them with an iron scepter you will dash them to pieces like pottery.”
He is the second child prophesied in Isaiah 9 promised to the gentles ‘…but in the future, He will honor Galilee of the gentiles,’
Isaiah 9:1-7 1Nevertheless, there will be no more gloom for those who were in distress. In the past he humbled the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, but in the future he will honor Galilee of the nations, by the Way of the Sea, beyond the Jordan—
2 The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of deep darkness a light has dawned. 3 You have enlarged the nation and increased their joy; they rejoice before you as people rejoice at the harvest, as warriors rejoice when dividing the plunder.
6 For to us a child is born, to us a son is given,
and the government will be on his shoulders And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
7 Of the greatness of his government and peace there will be no end.
He will reign on David’s throne and over his kingdom,
establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness from that time on and forever. The zeal of the Lord Almighty will accomplish this.
The Lord Jesus Christ will rule through the child of Revelation 12 and those who rise at the first resurrection of the saints as it is written
Revelation 20 4 I saw thrones on which were seated those who had been given authority to judge. And I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded because of their testimony about Jesus and because of the word of God. They had not worshiped the beast or its image and had not received its mark on their foreheads or their hands. They came to life and reigned with Christ a thousand years. 5 (The rest of the dead did not come to life until the thousand years were ended.) This is the first resurrection.6 Blessed and holy are those who share in the first resurrection. The second death has no power over them, but they will be priests of God and of Christ and will reign with him for a thousand years.
The woman of Revelation 12 is not necessarily ‘THE’ church though she will represent and be apart of the church. She is anointed to serve God in Israel through the wisdom of understanding the times and season of the end times and will be, as a watchman for the church and Israel. Around the time of the great persecution, the anti-Christ and his government will persecute the woman and try to deceive people to believe she is the anti-Christ or false prophet, this will be an attempt to get many more saints falling. God Who Is Ever faithful will hear and answer her prayer by airing images of her vindication on the sky for all to see. This will assure her and the church. At that time, the son she bears who is the future King David, will be caught up to God’s throne to be raised as a son of God and son of man.
Glory and Honor to the Most High God for His Faithfulness Mercy and Love! Ephesians 1:17 I ask that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better. 18 I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people, 19 and his incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is the same as the mighty strength 20 he exerted when he raised Christ from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms, 21 far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every name that is invoked, not only in the present age but also in the one to come. 22 And God placed all things under his feet and appointed him to be head over everything for the church, 23 which is his body, the fullness of him who fills everything in every way. Amen!
