3.The anti-Christ

 The anti-Christ rise to world power as the beast from the sea
A focus on Ezekiel 31, Isaiah 14 and Ezekiel 28.

Many prophecy students have often though some passages in Isaiah 14 and Ezekiel 28 refer to the devil or that ancient servant. Although this is partly true, these passages also refer to the anti-Christ. The anti-Christ is the seventh head of the devil and is described by the physical features of the devil in Revelation 13 where he is described to have seven heads and ten horns just as the devil is described in Revelation 12. The description in Revelation 13 indicates, the anti-Christ will look/be like his father the devil, like father like son. In Isaiah 14 and Ezekiel 28, the passages point to the anti-Christ and help us understand vital facts about the man of wrath who is coming to destroy the earth in fulfillment of God’s purposes.

It is of extreme importance to understand Isaiah 14, Ezekiel 31 and Ezekiel 28 when studying about the anti-Christ. This is because, these three chapters give so much information regarding what the anti-Christ will do, his life before he rises and after he rises to power as the anti-Christ, and who he will be. This article explains how these chapters relate to the anti-Christ at the same time giving ore information on who he will be and what he will do.

Understanding the anti-Christ through Isaiah 14, Ezekiel 28 and Ezekiel 31

To understand Ezekiel 28, Isaiah 14 and Ezekiel 31, it  is important to understand the use of Names as symbols in Bible prophecy. Names, symbols  or descriptions in Bible prophecy can /are used to tell us more about the object in discussion.
An example :
The anti-Christ has been described with the physical attributes  of the dragon as a beast having seven heads, 10 horns and ten crowns on its head in Revelation 13 to indicate who he will belong to; that ancient serpent with 7 heads and 10 horns. The description of the anti-Christ in Revelation 13 and 17 is an example of how people, events or things are symbolized in Bible prophecy. symbols are used to show/give information about the character, such as:

  • What they do, such as the description of the anti-Christ in Trumpet 5 Revelation 9; he is referred to as the destroyer to indicate what he will do, to destroy the earth,
  • Where they will come from such as the anti-Christ name in Jeremiah and Daniel, King of the North, northern armies, indicating from which direction he will come from, the north
  • What something is, such as the name ‘Garden of Eden or sanctuary, or the place of the redeemed,  as used to refer to Mount Zion of The Lord
  • What they signify or represent such as the description of Christians or believers as stars to signify their faith in God and the light which they are to show to those in darkness through their deeds.

A lot of symbolism is used In Isaiah 14, Ezekiel 31 and Ezekiel 28, to describe the anti-Christ. A lot of information is given to show what he will do, who he will be before and after his rise to power as well as what will happen to him at the end of his life. These symbolism and their use are noted as we study though each chapter in this article

Isaiah 14

 Many prophecy students have often thought  Isaiah 14:4-25 is about Lucifer that ancient serpent because it is written;

Isaiah 14:12 How you have fallen from heaven, morning star, son of the dawn! You have been cast down to the earth,… 13 You said in your heart,  “I will ascend to the heavens; I will raise my throne above the stars of God;

These verses may indeed be referring to the devil, however these verses are mainly written so we can understand the anti-Christ. The verses in Isaiah 14:4-25 are proved to refer to the anti-Christ by other prophecies in the Bible, example

  • The anti-Christ rise above the stars of God and his fall as a star as described in Isaiah 14:12-13 ( Stars describe those who have faith in God like Abraham and thus become Abraham’s spiritual children.)

Isaiah 14:12 How you have fallen from heaven, morning star, son of the dawn! You have been cast down to the earth,… 13 You said in your heart,  “I will ascend to the heavens; I will raise my throne above the stars of God;
This rise of the anti-Christ to the very top, sitting enthroned in the mount of assembly is confirmed in Daniel. Through the anti-Christ’s faith he will grow towards Zion of the redeemed.  He will be a leader among the Christian believers and thus rise to the  utmost heights . This rise to power until he reaches the top position among the top leaders among Christians is confirmed in Daniel;
Daniel 8:9-12  Out of one of them came another horn, which started small but grew in power to the south and to the east and toward the Beautiful Land. 10 It grew until it reached the host of the heavens, and it threw some of the starry host down to the earth and trampled on them.

  • His fall from the high position of leadership is described in Revelation, where he falls as a star (Believer of God) in Trumpet 3 to become the fallen star who is the angel of the abyss and destroyer of nations in Trumpet 5 as written,

Revelation 8:10 10 The third angel sounded his trumpet, and a great star, blazing like a torch, fell from the sky on a third of the rivers and on the springs of water— 11 the name of the star is Wormwood. A third of the waters turned bitter, and many people died from the waters that had become bitter
Revelation 9 :1-3 The fifth angel sounded his trumpet, and I saw a star that had fallen from the sky to the earth. The star was given the key to the shaft of the Abyss. When he opened the Abyss, smoke rose from it like the smoke from a gigantic furnace. The sun and sky were darkened by the smoke from the Abyss.  And out of the smoke locusts came down on the earth and were given power like that of scorpions of the earth.  11 They had as king over them the angel of the Abyss, whose name in Hebrew is Abaddon and in Greek is Apollyon (that is, Destroyer).

  •  How he will be perceive him, as the son of a new dawn;

The anti-Christ will be very successful  and rise quickly in ranks within the Christian community while at the same time, actively campaign for peace. He will be chosen as one of the leaders to safeguard the world peace treaty and then deceive those elected along with him and with a few people (those elected with him) he will be elected to the highest position in the world and have power over all the world.  (Refer to  ‘Facts about the anti-Christ’) Because of the success he will have in everything he does, rising quickly in ranks and success in achieving the world peace treaty, many will view him as the son of a new dawn.

  • Isaiah 14:13 shows the attitude of pride he will have in his heart

Isaiah 14: 14 I will ascend above the tops of the clouds;
    I will make myself like the Most High.”
This attitude of pride in his heart  is also spoken of in Ezekiel 28
Ezekiel 28:2…“‘In the pride of your heart you say, “I am a god;
I sit on the throne of a god  in the heart of the seas.”
But you are a mere mortal and not a god,
    though you think you are as wise as a god.
By your wisdom and understanding you have gained wealth for yourself
and amassed gold and silver  in your treasuries.
By your great skill in trading you have increased your wealth,
and because of your wealth your heart has grown proud.

17 Your heart became proud on account of your beauty,
and you corrupted your wisdom because of your splendor.
So I threw you to the earth; I made a spectacle of you before kings.

This attitude will make him destroy many nations. The Lord has purposed to unleash his vengeance on earth through the anti-Christ, however pride in his heart will make him believe he is doing it by his own wisdom and strength and therefore can do whatever he pleases
Isaiah 10:12-19 12 When the Lord has finished all his work against Mount Zion and Jerusalem, he will say, “I will punish the king of Assyria for the willful pride of his heart and the haughty look in his eyes. 13 For he says:
“‘By the strength of my hand I have done this,
and by my wisdom, because I have understanding.
I removed the boundaries of nations, I plundered their treasures;
like a mighty one I subdued their kings.
14 As one reaches into a nest, so my hand reached for the wealth of the nations;
as people gather abandoned eggs, so I gathered all the countries;
not one flapped a wing, or opened its mouth to chirp.’”
Habakkuk 2:4-5 See, the enemy is puffed up; his desires are not upright— but the righteous person will live by his faithfulness. indeed, wine betrays him; he is arrogant and never at rest. Because he is as greedy as the grave and like death is never satisfied, he gathers to himself all the nations and takes captive all the peoples.
Habakkuk 1  14 You have made people like the fish in the sea, like the sea creatures that have no ruler. 15 The wicked foe pulls all of them up with hooks, he catches them in his net,
he gathers them up in his dragnet;  and so he rejoices and is glad.
16 Therefore he sacrifices to his net and burns incense to his dragnet,
for by his net he lives in luxury and enjoys the choicest food.
17 Is he to keep on emptying his net, destroying nations without mercy?
Isaiah 10:5-7“Woe to the Assyrian, the rod of my anger, in whose hand is the club of my wrath!
I send him against a godless nation, I dispatch him against a people who anger me,
to seize loot and snatch plunder,  and to trample them down like mud in the streets.
But this is not what he intends, this is not what he has in mind;
his purpose is to destroy, to put an end to many nations
.

The anti-Christ will destroy many nations out of pride, making many think he is immortal. however, he shall fall like all mortal men and at that time, the kings in the underworld will wonder as recorded in Isaiah 14,
Isaiah 14:16-17 “… this the man who shook the earth and made kingdoms tremble, 17 the man who made the world wilderness, who overthrew its cities and would not let his captives go home?”
In Isaiah 14:6 ,which in anger struck down peoples with unceasing blows, and in fury subdued nations with relentless aggression,

Because of this destruction of the nations, and for destroying his own people he will not be burried as indicated in Isaiah 14

Isaiah 14:18-20 18 All the kings of the nations lie in state, each in his own tomb. 19 But you are cast out of your tomb like a rejected branch; you are covered with the slain, with those pierced by the sword, those who descend to the stones of the pit. Like a corpse trampled underfoot, 20you will not join them in burial, for you have destroyed your land and killed your people.
His corpse is trampled underfoot and he will not be buried nor find peace in his death because he destroyed his land and killed his people. This betrayal of his own people is confirmed in Habakkuk and the shaming of his own house is confirmed in Jeremiah;
Habakkuk 2: “See, the enemy is puffed up;  his desires are not upright—
but the righteous person will live by his faithfulness indeed, wine betrays him;  he is arrogant and never at rest. Because he is as greedy as the grave and like death is never satisfied, he gathers to himself all the nations and takes captive all the peoples.
9“Woe to him who builds his house by unjust gain, setting his nest on high
to escape the clutches of ruin! 10 You have plotted the ruin of many peoples,
shaming your own house and forfeiting your life
. 11 The stones of the wall will cry out, and the beams of the woodwork will echo it.
Jeremiah 12 “I will forsake my house, abandon my inheritance;
I will give the one I love into the hands of her enemies.
My inheritance has become to me like a lion in the forest.
She roars at me; therefore I hate her.
Has not my inheritance become to me like a speckled bird of prey
that other birds of prey surround and attack?
Go and gather all the wild beasts; bring them to devour.

All the verses in Isaiah 14:5-23 are supported by other prophecies that speak of the anti-Christ The anti-Christ will represent the devil and it is through people that the devil works. Thus the verses that are often thought to refer to the devil in Isaiah 14:12-13 are also used to refer to the anti-Christ. The anti-Christ will rise as one of the top leaders within the church. He will fall as a leader to become the destroyer of nations.

Ezekiel 28 and Ezekiel 31
In Ezekiel 28:2-19 the verses, 2 to 19 are written addressing the king of Tyre. In Bible prophecy, Tyre is known for trade, through trade it intoxicated the people of the earth and influenced them into sin.  Ezekiel 31 is written addressing Pharaoh king of Egypt. Spiritually Egypt and its kings symbolize the spirit of oppression. Ezekiel 31 could therefore be pointing out that the anti-Christ will oppress others most likely through trade. Ezekiel 28: 2-19, address the anti-Christ referring him as the king of Tyre to symbolize his power as a trader. The anti-Christ will be highly skilled and wise trades man . Through his trade, he will become very wealthy but also sin and fall.

 Ezekiel 28: ‘By your wisdom and understanding you have gained wealth for yourself and amassed gold and silver in your treasuries. By your great skill in trading you have increased your wealth, and because of your wealth your heart has grown proud. You were blameless in your ways from the day you were created
till wickedness was found in you. 16 Through your widespread trade
you were filled with violence, and you sinned.
So I drove you in disgrace from the mount of God,
and I expelled you, guardian cherub, from among the fiery stones.
18 By your many sins and dishonest trade  you have desecrated your sanctuaries.
So I made a fire come out from you,  and it consumed you,
and I reduced you to ashes on the ground in the sight of all who were watching.
 The book of Nahum chapter 3 talks of the anti-Christ destruction, in the chapter, his merchants who are as many as locusts are mentioned:
Nahum 3 15..Multiply like grasshoppers, multiply like locusts!
16 You have increased the number of your merchants
till they are more numerous than the stars in the sky,
but like locusts they strip the land and then fly away.
17 Your guards are like locusts, your officials like swarms of locusts
that settle in the walls on a cold day but when the sun appears they fly away,
and no one knows where.

The anti-Christ will move to/live in East Africa

Ezekiel 31 “‘Who can be compared with you in majesty?
Consider Assyria, once a cedar in Lebanon,
with beautiful branches overshadowing the forest;
it towered on high, its top above the thick foliage.
Through the visions that were given to Daniel, the angel confirmed that the Anti-Christ will grow towards the East( East Africa) the South (Egypt and north African countries) and towards the beautiful land (Israel). Ezekiel 28 also confirm the anti-Christ will be (live) in Eden (East Africa)
Daniel 8:9 Out of one of them came another horn, which started small but grew in power to the south and to the east and toward the Beautiful Land.
Ezekiel 28:12-1312 …‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says:
“‘You were the seal of perfection, full of wisdom and perfect in beauty.
13 You were in Eden,  the garden of God;
every precious stone adorned you: carnelian, chrysolite and emerald,
topaz, onyx and jasper, lapis lazuli, turquoise and beryl
Your settings and mountings[ were made of gold;
on the day you were created they were prepared.

The anti-Christ will start as a genuine Christian. Trade will cause his fall
Ezekiel 28 15 You were blameless in your ways from the day you were created
till wickedness was found in you. 16 Through your widespread trade
you were filled with violence, and you sinned.
So I drove you in disgrace from the mount of God,
and I expelled you, guardian cherub, from among the fiery stones.
17 Your heart became proud on account of your beauty,
and you corrupted your wisdom because of your splendor.
So I threw you to the earth; I made a spectacle of you before kings.
18 By your many sins and dishonest trade you have desecrated your sanctuaries.
So I made a fire come out from you, and it consumed you,
and I reduced you to ashes on the ground  in the sight of all who were watching.
Ezekiel 31 10 “‘Therefore this is what the Sovereign Lord says: Because the great cedar towered over the thick foliage, and because it was proud of its height, 11 I gave it into the hands of the ruler of the nations, for him to deal with according to its wickedness. I cast it aside, 12 and the most ruthless of foreign nations cut it down and left it. Its boughs fell on the mountains and in all the valleys; its branches lay broken in all the ravines of the land. All the nations of the earth came out from under its shade and left it. 13 All the birds settled on the fallen tree, and all the wild animals lived among its branches. 14 Therefore no other trees by the waters are ever to tower proudly on high, lifting their tops above the thick foliage. No other trees so well-watered are ever to reach such a height; they are all destined for death, for the earth below, among mortals who go down to the realm of the dead.

In East Africa, the anti-Christ will have a high position among the redeemed
Ezekiel 31 The waters nourished it, deep springs made it grow tall;
their streams flowed  all around its base and sent their channels
to all the trees of the field. So it towered higher
than all the trees of the field; its boughs increased
and its branches grew long,  spreading because of abundant waters.
3…with beautiful branches overshadowing the forest; it towered on high,
its top above the thick foliage.
7It was majestic in beauty, with its spreading boughs,
for its roots went down to abundant waters.
The cedars in the garden of God could not rival it,
nor could the junipers equal its boughs,
nor could the plane trees compare with its branches—
no tree in the garden of God  could match its beauty.
I made it beautiful with abundant branches,
the envy of all the trees of Eden in the garden of God.
This is confirmed in Ezekiel 28 and Daniel 8
Ezekiel 2814 You were anointed as a guardian cherub, for so I ordained you.
You were on the holy mount of God; you walked among the fiery stones.
Daniel  8:1010 It grew until it reached the host of the heavens, …

Because of his position, nations will come under his shade until his fall
Ezekiel 31 All the birds of the sky nested in its boughs,
all the animals of the wild gave birth under its branches;
all the great nations lived in its shade.
The anti-Christ will have a high position in East Africa and a leader among Christians. Because of his position and character as Christian, nations especially in North Africa will be comfortable under him.
Before the time of Wrath, East Africa and Israel will submit under him for protection. Just before the time of wrath, he will betray the two nations leaving them to be attacked by his army as it is written,
Lamentations19 “I called to my allies but they betrayed me.
17The Lord has decreed for Jacob that his neighbors become his foes;
Jerusalem has become  an unclean thing among them.
Lamentation 4 17Moreover, our eyes failed, looking in vain for help;
from our towers we watched for a nation that could not save us. .
20 The LORD’s anointed, our very life breath, was caught in their traps.
We thought that under his shadow we would live among the nations.
After the sinning of the peace treaty, the anti-Christ will betray East Africa, north Africa and Israel, his armies will invade these nations destroying them. At that time, those left in Israel and East Africa will submit to him for food and water.
Lamentation 5 We must buy the water we drink; our wood can be had only at a price.
Those who pursue us are at our heels; we are weary and find no rest.
We submitted to Egypt and Assyria to get enough bread.
Our ancestors sinned and are no more, and we bear their punishment.
Slaves rule over us, and there is no one to free us from their hands.
We get our bread at the risk of our lives because of the sword in the desert.
10 Our skin is hot as an oven, feverish from hunger.
Lamentation 5 11 Women have been violated in Zion, and virgins in the towns of Judah..
13 Young men toil at the millstones; boys stagger under loads of wood.
14 The elders are gone from the city gate; the young men have stopped their music.
15 Joy is gone from our hearts; our dancing has turned to mourning.
It is for this reason Zion and Israel have warned against forming alliances with foreign nations, however, Zion and Israel will not obey God’s word and will form alliances that will betray them.

Conclusion
Isaiah 14, Ezekiel 28 and Ezekiel 31 all refer to the end time anti-Christ. Understanding these three chapters is vital in understanding who the anti-Christ will be especially in the times ahead. Understanding the life of the anti-Christ in East Africa is also crucial in differentiating between the many Christian leaders who will grow in power as we near the very end of this age.

The violent death of the anti-Christ is discussed in Isaiah 14 and Ezekiel 28. The two chapters are written in a very complementing way as though they were written by one person. Though they were written by two different prophets, He Who gave the prophecies remains the same, in ages past and in ages to come. An article on the anti-Christ death will be posted separately.

Jesus Christ is coming, and the only way to be prepared is to understand what the scripture says.  When the anti-Christ rises, there will be no middle ground, it will be either with Jesus Who will ultimately give eternal life or with the anti-Christ leading to eternal death.

The requirement is just one, believe that God is, and Jesus has paid for all your sins.
No sin is bigger or smaller, all have been paid for
Jesus Christ is the truth and the way to life. And all those who believe in Jesus Christ shall be saved. God loves his creation He gave Jesus Christ so that all who can dare believe, will not perish but have eternal life. He is faithful and True to fulfill His promises.
