Mount Zion as a Symbolic prophecy names for the church
Zion or Mount Zion is one of the symbolic names that is very prominent in end time prophecies. Mount Zion is one with Israel and or Jerusalem in their calling by God, however, Zion is not another name or a place for Jerusalem or Israel. Rather, Mount Zion is a place chosen by God to be a sanctuary for those redeemed by the blood of Jesus Christ.
Jerusalem is in the center of all nations as written; Ezekiel 5:5 “This is what the Sovereign LORD says: This is Jerusalem, which I have set in the center of the nations, with countries all around her.
While Zion is towards the East, from the rising of the sun, and so it’s written: Psalms 50: 1 The Mighty One, God, the LORD, speaks and summons the earth from the rising of the sun to where it sets. 2 From Zion, perfect in beauty, God shines forth.
Both Zion and Jerusalem are cities of The Living God and both symbolize a people and a place. Jerusalem represents the people of Israel and as a place represents the throne God; Jeremiah 3: 17 At that time they will call Jerusalem The Throne of the LORD, and all nations will gather in Jerusalem to honor the name of the LORD. No longer will they follow the stubbornness of their evil hearts.
Mount Zion symbolizes the people redeemed by the blood of Christ and are part of Christ’s church as Paul wrote in Hebrews. The heavenly Jerusalem is free while the earthly Jerusalem is still in bondage until Israel acknowledges salvation is purely through the Grace of Jesus Christ Jesus . This will happen during the great lamentation when Israel mourns for Jesus Christ as one mourns for an only son. Zion on the other hand, is a place of the redeemed who have accepted the message of salvation in Jesus Christ and are thus free like the heavenly Jerusalem. Paul having received revelation about Zion wrote to the redeemed of the Lord telling them, coming to Zion is being in the presence of the Lord, in the presence of His throne in the heavenly Jerusalem, and since they have been redeemed by the blood of the Lamb and are among the church of the first born Jesus Christ, they need not fear…
Hebrews 12: 18 You have not come to a mountain that can be touched and that is burning with fire; to darkness, gloom and storm; 19 to a trumpet blast or to such a voice speaking words that those who heard it begged that no further word be spoken to them, 20 because they could not bear what was commanded: “If even an animal touches the mountain, it must be stoned to death.” 21 The sight was so terrifying that Moses said, “I am trembling with fear.”
22 But you have come to Mount Zion, to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem. You have come to thousands upon thousands of angels in joyful assembly,
23 to the church of the firstborn, whose names are written in heaven. You have come to God, the Judge of all, to the spirits of the righteous made perfect, 24 to Jesus the mediator of a new covenant, and to the sprinkled blood that speaks a better word than the blood of Abel.
Paul was speaking of the time when all redeemed Christians will be called to go to Zion marking the fullness of the gentiles just before the time of wrath starts. The time of wrath also known as God’s vengeance upon the earth will start with the destruction of Babylon as it is written:
Revelation 18: 4 Warning to Escape Babylon’s Judgment : 4 Then I heard another voice from heaven say:“‘Come out of her, my people,’ so that you will not share in her sins, so that you will not receive any of her plagues; 5 for her sins are piled up to heaven, and God has remembered her crimes.
Jeremiah 51:7“Flee from Babylon! Run for your lives! Do not be destroyed because of her sins. It is time for the Lord’s vengeance; he will repay her what she deserves. 10 “‘The Lord has vindicated us; come, let us tell in Zion what the Lord our God has done.’ 43“Come out of her, my people! Run for your lives! Run from the fierce anger of the Lord.48 Then heaven and earth and all that is in them will shout for joy over Babylon, for out of the north destroyers will attack her,” declares the Lord.
Jeremiah 50:8 “Flee out of Babylon; leave the land of the Babylonians, and be like the goats that lead the flock. 28 Listen to the fugitives and refugees from Babylon declaring in Zion how the Lord our God has taken vengeance, vengeance for his temple
In Isaiah 51:11 it is confirmed where these saints will return:
Isaiah 51:11 Those the LORD has rescued will return. They will enter Zion with singing; everlasting joy will crown their heads.
Gladness and joy will overtake them, and sorrow and sighing will flee away.
Isaiah 62:11 The LORD has made proclamation to the ends of the earth: “Say to Daughter Zion, … 12 They will be called the Holy People, the Redeemed of the LORD; and you will be called Sought After, the City No Longer Deserted.
Thus, Mount Zion as used in Bible prophecy refer to the church and the place chosen by God to be a sanctuary for all the redeemed at the end of this age as a mark that all the gentile saints have come in just before the Time of His vengeance upon the earth.
